The Possible Committee Assignments for WID Volunteers

With a bachelor's degree in political science and leadership studies from the University of Richmond, Krista Madaio has over eight years of experience working as a fundraiser with a track record of significant achievement. Krista Madaio is a member of Maverick PAC and Women in Development (WID).

WID is an association that provides networking opportunities and professional development for women in the fundraising field of work. Since it is a volunteer-led organization, WID provides several volunteering opportunities for those who are interested in helping.

The three possible volunteering opportunities are volunteering in the Welcome project, micro-volunteer opportunities, and committee assignments that include a required time committed per month. Members can apply to one of the many available committees: communications committee (which requires an average 3-5 hours per month commitment), luncheons committee (less than one hour per month commitment), membership committee (a commitment of 1-3 hours per month), the special programs committee (less than one hour monthly), and the woman of achievement committee (5 hours or more per month).

An established New York City consultant, Krista Madaio has guided a number of high profile political fundraising endeavors. With a passion for antiquing, Krista Madaio helps her mother and sister with the company Summers Cottage and regularly attends estate sales. 

One noteworthy offering on the Summers Cottage Etsy page has been a rare 12 piece set of late 19th century Adams China-produced ironstone Doctor Syntax plates. These Victorian styled items feature pictures taken from a popular book of the era, The Tour of Doctor Syntax. Like Norman Rockwell in America, they portray representative scenes of everyday life. 

Adams China Co. stands as one of England’s preeminent pottery houses, with its establishment in Staffordshire in the 17th century coming at the height of British interest in floral and geometric designs taken from the Orient. The manufacturer focused on cookware, white pottery, and ironstone, with William Adams working closely with Wedgwood as it developed its storied basalt and jasperware clay formulas. 

The ironstone formulation was an Adams innovation that resulted in a pottery that was more chip resistant and durable than its earthenware predecessor. Adams remained a major force in UK giftware until the 1970s, when it refocused on hotelware, and this lasted until the closing of its factory in the 1990s. Today, its pieces are still highly valued by collectors, with particularly iconic designs including the “Elgin,” “Impress,” and “Crown.
